Trying to move is the stuff that nightmares are made of. Unless you suffer from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and like putting your OCD to the task by trying to organize things, boxes, labels, packing tape, and bubble wrap can eventually take over your home—not to mention the mounds of actual items to be packed and the lists of things that have to be done on top of everything else. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Technology has already made our lives so much simpler on many fronts; packing is just another area that it can help us. If you own a smartphone or a tablet, then here are some apps that can help with the moving process and can reduce your stress significantly.
Moving Day—Moving Day is an app from Mighty Ants and is definitely worth checking out, especially as it is free on the App Store. This app is incredibly easy to use and very adaptable to your moving situation. This app allows you to catalog your belongings as you go about the process of packing. It even lets you print labels with bar codes that allow you to tag boxes so you know which room a box belongs in and what is inside the box. You can print or email reports directly from the app so that you can track what has and what hasn’t been unpacked or delivered. These reports can also help with tracking the value of items and organizing pictures and damage reports in the event that you have to make an insurance claim with your movers. Finally, the app can run even without an Internet connection, a definite plus considering most of the time you may not have your service up and running in your new home when you first move in.
Suddath Moving Guru—This app from the Suddath Companies is for those who need more direction and management in their moving experience. This still lets you make your own checklist, but it also has its own premade tasks that can be synced to your calendar up to ten weeks before your move so that you can stay on track for the big day. It also allows you to see tips for moving and for picking a mover even if you are moving in the area or internationally (or even if you are moving through the government). This app also allows you to interact with certain movers so that you can select a moving estimate from them and, once you have gotten underway, you can even track your boxes en route to your new home. Finally, the app also includes a notification service that will let you select contacts in your phone to inform of your move.
